The EPA supports cogeneration because increasing the efficiency of our energy supply is a cost-effective way to achieve smog and CO2 emission reductions. Studies show that cogeneration reduces smog-forming emissions (NOx) by 7,607 tons every year and greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) by more than 26,053,093 tons every year – the equivalent of removing more than 5,000,000 cars from California highways.
