The EPA supports cogeneration because increasing the efficiency of our energy supply is a cost-effective way to achieve smog and CO2 emission reductions. Studies show that cogeneration reduces smog-forming emissions (NOx) by 7,607 tons every year and greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) by more than 26,053,093 tons every year the equivalent of removing more than 5,000,000 cars from California highways.
