Dear Public Utilities Commissioners Michael Peevey, John Bohn, Geoffrey Brown, Dian Grueneich, and Rachelle Chong,
The reliability and efficiency of the states energy supply is of huge concern to all Californians. The California Energy Commission recently outlined important policy changes that are necessary to keep cogeneration a vital part of the states energy mix. As part of your comprehensive push for greater energy efficiency, please implement a fair, open, and focused cogeneration policy to preserve this valuable resource. A standardized process is needed to ensure cogeneration contracts are renewed at reasonable rates; annual targets for cogenerated power must be established; and greater transparency is needed when it comes to utility pricing and costs.
Cogeneration is not only one of the states most reliable and efficient power sources, its also one of the cleanest reducing greenhouse gas and polluting emissions by the equivalent of removing more than 5 million cars from our highways.
I join with so many others in the hopes that youll take immediate action to keep this proven power source up and running. We cannot afford to lose it.
